Friends Provident is delighted to present the third of our ‘Visions of Britain 2020’ reports. Produced with the Future Foundation, we aim to paint an insightful and realistic picture of British society ten years from now. In chapters one and two, we provided a vision of what the British workplace would look like in 2020.
In this third report, we move our focus to explore the future health of our nation. The NHS is a source of great pride in this country but there is no question that with an ageing population and a new era of austerity in the public finances, the institution will have to change dramatically in the next ten years.
In this chapter of Visions of Britain, we explore how the way our health is managed will change as a result. Where will the balance of responsibility lie when it comes to keeping Britain healthy and what will this mean for government, for healthcare professionals and ultimately for individuals? Answering these questions will present significant challenges for government and the healthcare system and will demand a fundamental change in the way all of us think about and manage our health.
At Friends Provident, we believe that with careful planning and consideration of the choices available to us, challenges can be made into opportunities. By making informed and considered choices about our health and well-being, we can secure the freedom to enjoy our lives.
We hope the fascinating insights within ‘Visions of Britain 2020’ will help guide you in these choices.
