In terms of the emerging trend of employees paying for their own education, will this disadvantage new, highly skilled entrants to the market – e.g. undergraduates – who may not have the means to pay for this?

Our experts answered...

The price of higher education has increased, but has not deterred those from poor backgrounds because the generosity of support has also increased.  Higher fees and less generous support in the future must deter some.  However, an even bigger barrier is  the poor quality of pre-university education that many children from disadvantaged backgrounds receive.
